“….to stand on my neck again…”

I have said this before. This photo was taken a couple of years after my car accident. Both ends of my spine and back had trauma and damage.

It is my favorite photo of me because I made it!! I got through “The Dark Before the Dawn”.

This particular Half Locust Posture I practice daily is part of The Bikram Yoga Series. I worked very hard to finally stand on my neck in this magnificent posture. A 10-year practice! The feeling when you accomplish it is magical, bliss .and “No Time No Space”.

I always thought if I could stand on my neck again, my spine would be okay. My spine doctor would be wrong about my future.

The years in between my car accident and this photo were not pretty. They were hard...they were different degrees of “painful” and “sometimes scary”.

I kept most of my suffering to myself. I just had to figure out a way to get out of pain and save my life, my spine, my yoga practice and my heart.

There was SO MUCH time I spent alone working on “Body Part by Body Part” … hours a day. Everyday! Two Bikram Classes a day at the Yoga School and 3-4 hours of Future Yoga ShapeShifting Homework at home after class.

I made it.

My gratitude is Beyond Words. I give thanks to The Heavenly Father for guidance, hope and faith... I give thanks to Bikram and Bikram Yoga for almost 40 years of this Yoga Practice, especially the first 10 years, that contributed to maintaining the health of my back. My life is better because of this.

All of this extra daily work in the Early 1990’s has become Yoga ShapeShifting. (Everything needs a title and a brand nowadays...!)

I am so happy to share this Transformational System I created for myself many years ago with Yoga Students and the Public.

This is why this is my most favorite photo of me ever.

I remember what I had to do to get there again...

BACKBEND DOWN THE WALL

If you ever wondered where the concept and practice of this specific technique of “BackBend Down the Wall” came from... It came from me.

Yes, indeed. It started with me.

I created this “BackBend Down the Wall” for healing and pain relief for myself after my car accident in the early 1990's.

The Wall became my strength and my balance when my body could no longer independently bend on its own because of the damage to both ends of my spine from my car accident.

I KNEW that Bending My Spine was the key to saving myself and getting out of pain... (Long story of explanation for another time....)

The Wall kept my body up and supported me when I was trying to bend again each section of my spine… ("BODY PART by BODY PART" of my back and spine). I was too weak to hold myself in any balancing, backbending position. The Bend of My Spine and Back was improving “Fraction of an Inch by Fraction of an Inch.”

It was not easy and the pain sensation as I was attempting to heal was sometimes so stunning as each of my hands would slightly move down the wall...oh my God when I think of that time alone!

I did not go all the way down to the floor in the beginning. NO WAY! But what I soon came to realize was THIS… “The MOMENT your hands touch the wall... IT is Happening!” It doesn’t matter how far down you go. It doesn’t matter if you NEVER touch the floor. Something magnificent is already happening the moment your hands touch the wall. What a MIRACLE!

I am beyond grateful and blessed that Spirit Guided Me all those years ago to create this Body Skill... It has changed thousands and thousands of yoga practices all these years. You see it all over the world now in social media...

I never take my gifts of Godly Inspiration and Guidance for granted. It is beyond precious. It is humbling. It softens my heart and my soul while it stimulates my entire Central Nervous System! That’s a WIN!

So now you know where “BackBends Down the Wall” came from... It came from me. It started with me in the early 1990's.

I am now going to be a little firm in my next statement because there has been a lot of confusion over all these years. (This is NOT a "Wall Walk") I do not call, nor have I ever called Backbends Down the Wall this term. It cheapens this incredible Healing Process that saved my Life, My Spine and my Yoga Practice so many years ago. I am VERY SPECIFIC about the exact technique to execute bending your spine down the wall. New students must be conservative in their initial practicing of this Amazing Body Skill. I am upset when I come across videos of inexperienced students forcing their way down the wall to the floor when they are not ready in some kind of Social Media Challenge. Falling down the wall too far too fast is not good... The Wall safely helps you touch the floor in time to never to hurt you in any way. I know they are excited about something new… I know their hearts are in the right place…Their intent is sincere…They just need mentorship and guidance with wisdom to help them improve without injury.

These are some of the Body Part problems that I have seen from students who get seduced by Wall Walk Challenges. Torn Labrums in the shoulder or hip. (A nasty and inconvenient surgery if really bad) Torn Meniscus in the Knee. (Takes forever to heal) Tears in Bicep Nerve. (Affects every yoga posture) Inflammation in the Shoulder Joint area. None of that listed above is okay. It is not necessary for you to experience any of this ever!

You just have to WAIT and ENJOY each level of your success. You’ve got time.
